“When I started working on the music – I don’t know how to explain it – I just allowed all those stories to speak to me,” says composer and jazz trumpeter Terence Blanchard, describing his process for writing his second opera, Fire Shut Up in My Bones. Hot on the heels of winning a GRAMMY for best opera recording, Blanchard will be in Dallas for two nights at the Meyerson Symphony Center. He joined WRR’s Amy Bishop to talk more in depth about the opera and his approach to composing.
